An important part of the mission of our Rotary Global Travelers E-Club is “We serve the world.” Sometimes we do that by traveling internationally and participating in service projects. But many of us want other ways to serve.
Our Trips, Service, and Social committee has been very creative in developing initiatives that allow us to serve in our own communities, all working toward the same goal. “We serve together, separately.”
You might remember our very successful “Let’s Talk Trash” service project last fall. We’ve brought it back this year, from now until mid-November.
It’s easy to participate. Find some trash, pick it up, take a picture. You can have a formal plan, like taking part in highway or beach clean-up. Or you can just patrol your neighborhood or a local park. Every little bit you do contributes to a cleaner world.
Send your picture to rotaryglobaltravelers@gmail.com. If picking up trash doesn’t work for you, maybe you’d like to contribute $1 (or $5 or $10) to our club foundation for every Trash Talk photo that appears on our social media.
If you’re feeling adventuresome, you can try out our new Ignite application and record your participation in this project. Our club isn’t focus on detailed tracking of service hours. We are more interested in participation. So if you just put 1 hour, that is fine.
From your Ignite home screen, pick “My Service Hours.” Then in the My Service Hours screen, use the dropdown to choose “Let’s Talk Trash.” You can enter a note if you’d like to describe where you worked or what you did.
Even if you do this, we still want you to send a picture, and to have fun!
