Fighting Liver Cancer in Egypt

Grant Update -- August 2023

Classroom training of nurses on the treatment of liver cancer has begun. After training, these highly trained medical personnel to provide patient care.

Patient procedures utilizing catheter directed trans arterial chemoembolization (TACE) have been initiated, there is now the ability to provide at 4:45 patience.

History of the Grant

 

In the fall of 2022, Rotary  Global Travelers formed a partnership with Cairo Elite Rotary Club in Egypt. Together we wrote a grant to

  • Fund a specialized medical procedure to extend the lives of 45 patients with liver cancer in Egypt
  • Provide advanced training for the nurses caring for these individuals.

We have two NGOs (Non-Government Organizations) who are partnering with us:

  • The Egyptian Liver Research Institute and Hospital
  • The Association for Liver Patients Care

Rotary Global Travelers is planning a trip to Egypt in April 2024. Travelers will participate in a hands-on service project which involves screening for liver disease in several small communities outside Cairo.

Rotary Global Travelers is the sponsoring club for this grant. The Cairo Elite Rotary Club is the host club.

Funding came from the Rotary Global Travelers Foundation and individual club members, the Cairo Elite Rotary Club, and the following Rotary Clubs:

We received  $10,000 from District 5950. The $29,500 project was approved by the District 5950 Grant Committee on June 15, 2023. The first patients will have their procedure in the summer of 2023.
