Announcing: New Global Travelers Travel and Service Trip to the Amazon River- March 2025

By Mike DeLuca, Global Travelers Member and Trip Leader

We are pleased to announce a new service trip.    We have partnered with Belo Shabona to offer a new service trip to the Amazon River in March of 2025. This trip will be an unforgettable experience aboard a custom made Amazonian boat built by local artisans, with an authentic regional, vintage style.

Belo is a worldwide travel organization that produced memorable travel and service trips in the US, Europe and Brazil.   Belo has worked extensively with Rotary and our youth exchange programs. I have know the owner of Belo (a fellow Rotarian) for many years, and they run very nice programs led by trained and professional staff.

Service Components

A complete program and overview of the trip is included in the program brochure. You may access it here.   We will spend 2 nights in Manaus and 4 nights on the boat. We will fly into and out of Manaus, Brazil. It is a major international airport easily accessed from North America and Europe. Flights are not included in the cost.

Amazon village

Each Global Travelers trip has service components built in and this one is no exception.   We will be experiencing the Amazon rain forest, be able to plant a tree, visit a turtle sanctuary and release a baby turtle into the river.   We will use sustainable practices during the week.

A NOTE ABOUT ACCOMMODATIONS:

We want to be really clear on the accommodations on the boat. This is NOT a luxury cruise ship. It is an eco-friendly hand crafted boat that cruises the river.  The group will essentially be staying in a large room together in the bottom part of the boat in single beds.   There are photos in the brochure. Showers and restrooms are available on the boat.

COST:

The cost of this program is R13,500. Flights are not included.  Meals, accomodations and transfers are included. WIth the current dollar exchange that cost is approximately US $2,633 a person.   The cost is per person and there is NO single supplement rate. Credit cards may be used for payment (with an additional fee).

LIMITED AVAILABILITY

This trip will be limited to a small group of 6-10 people for each of their 2 boats.   We anticipate a lot of interest in this event and will be giving priority to Global Travelers members and then to associate members.   If you are not a member or associate, now is the time to get involved with Global Travelers E-Club.  Information on membership can be found here.
